Player versus Player

PvP: Player vs Player fighting

* Don't be an arse, you are not only player. (Treat the other players like you'd want to be treated yourself.)
* Ask for OOC consent in any case before initiating PvP... (assassinations/attacking in general)
* UNLESS there is logical IC reason. (continuous threatening/picking for fight/etc. Simply being evil is not logical reason.)
* Logical IC reason can be home territory, defending. (svirfnebli-Nyr, Duergar/Drow-Underdark, Others-surface)
* Raise dead/rez are not mandatory, but good manners. (You must raise dead would you break the rules however)

Addon: No porting to combat. <- period

If you want to get your companions ported to combat, you need the concent of opposing side OOC for this. Also you need to make it ICway or it closes in towards god-moding to give no RP possibility to prevent something like that happening.

To clear these concepts a bit better for everyone to avoid possible future problems.
First of...
Is it your character fighting another character? (that's IC happening and if you have good reason for it, then go ahead)
or
Is it you as player fighting another player/character? (that's OOC happening and you NEED to have OOC consent for it)

Logical IC reasons...

- Someone repeatedly offenses your character, such as intimidation, curses, clearly trying to pick a fight with you. This includes racial/personality preferences, elf-dwarf thing, heated personality, facing "hostile race". (suggestable: to give hint in character for them like gripping fists, grapping sword hilt, narrowing eyes.. and such that your characters patience is drawing thin)
- Self-defense... someone has attacked you and you have right to defend yourself automatically.
- Being robbed and spotting it IC. It is considered as an attack. (suggestable: That you stay true to your character, lawful good does not kill someone automatically, chaotic evil just might...)
- Generally stay true to your character, but do not be jerk OOC that way.

Home territories....
- Surface, races living in surface calls this place their home territory and holds "higher power" than those not living in surface. (every race except drow, duergar, svirfnebli) Exception to this is planetouched and half-drow, they are not directly forbidden, but many in the surface looks down on them and they might be viewed as second class citizen. Drow are kill on sight.

- Underdark, Land of drow and duergars. They hold the higher power and can kill outsiders (non drow or duergar) without much of question.

- Subterranean Passages, No mans land... Nyr/Q'os are exceptions, but can be seen below for more information...

- Guild/House territories, non-guild members are intruders if they are in guild territory and the members have right to dispatch the intruders.

- Nyr, home of Gnomes and Deep Gnomes... they are righteous defenders of Nyr and can defend Nyr from attacking forces/enforce the city laws. Gnomes word in Nyr is law. Drow are not allowed in Nyr, might find themselves dead in here and surfacers are considered suspicious, but not forbidden.

- Raduguer, home of Gray Dwarves, the duergar... They are the only righteous defenders of Raduguer and their word is law. They are traders by nature and do not exclude others really, but if surface dwarves (gold dwarves/shield dwarves) are spotted they tend not to like them.

- Szith, city of drow the dark elves... They make the rules there, females and higher rank drow especially. Ruled by Valsharess (Queen) and Ilharesses (Matron Mothers) individually, although there is also Ruling Council that contains all Ilharesses and Valsharess of city and making decission of the citys heading. Any non drow race spotted in Szith that is not a slave will find themselves soon either dead, tortured, enslaved or in sacrificial altar. (there will come more about this later on for more internal reasons)

- Stonebar, home of Shield Dwarves and Gold Dwarves... They are the lawful owners of Stonebar and their word is taken over other races words. Duergar are exception and they are not tolerated in Stonebar, nor are drow... they both might find themselves dead as soon as spotted.

- Surface cities, such as L'landra/Fae Saile/Mountains Deep... They are cities of human, elves and other races (non-gnomes, non-drow, non-duergar) in general. If city officials says something their word is taken over normal civilians and city laws stand to everyone. Drow are kill on sight in these cities.

- Q'os, this neutral merchant city is open to all races and fight is wanted to avoid in it. Open slave trading and merchantilism in general happens here, no one really owns the place and no one is forbidden to enter by the city officials.

Some exceptions for home territorial rules...
- Roleplayed disguises. Always let others know that you actually have a disguise, remember... no one can read your mind. (if someone is having effort to roleplay disguise then play with it)
- City officials giving special permission to enter the city or other recognition. (such as giving permission for specific drow to enter city)
- Banishment by city officials. (Naughty people gets banished from cities if they're enough mean.)
- Enslaved by citizen. (Mainly to Szith where slavery might make it approved for non-drow to wander there)

Drow society

Because drow society is quite conflict based...
- Females inside drow society are higher ranked than males automatically. Majorly offending female might result to death. (suggestable: players that play female, DON'T forget rule number one "have fun and don't ruin others enjoyability")
- Herecy will lead to death when found out, better hide it very well. (any non-Llothian or non-Selvetarian deity)
- Be ready for getting into fight... drow are very conflict based race. Be ready to back off and do what others say IC if you want to avoid fight. However remember that being a drow IC does not mean you can be jerk OOC.

Amnesia...
On some PvP cases there will come IC amnesia to your characters...
- Roleplayed deaths...
- Successful assassinations...
- Other deals made with opposing player on that specific fight...

This is to protect "wrong doers" of not getting totally screwed... like assassin whos victim returns and ruins their reputation after dying.

What this means is that your character doesn't quite remember what happened... numbers, shapes, shades of the people whom attacked doesn't come directly to your characters mind... it was human sized, it was halfling sized, it was elf-builded figure... some non-specific details stick to mind, but in manner that it's uncertain whom it was.

Raise Dead is NOT mandatory anymore, it is nice thing to do, but you do not have to do it. Although if you're doing clear rule breaking it is expectable that you'd raise dead your victims, such as attacking without any consent or IC reason (like you're evil and attack people because you're evil -> then raise dead others).

Sometimes surfacers might end up to not raising dead drow at surface... sometimes drow end up to not raise dead surfacers in underdark. It is their right to do this decission, but it is not something they have to do. So if you go to hostile territory you are accepting the possible consequences coming out of it.

Griefing is not allowed:

Quote from: Standing griefing rules
Griefing, Harassing or Repeated Tormenting: Any repeated assault on a character is Absolutely Prohibited

* Repeatedly killing a player is not allowed. If a PvP battle has occurred, neither party may attack the other for 24 hours REAL TIME.
* Pickpocketing a player more than once in a 24 hour period is not allowed. Repeat offenders WILL lose levels.
* Sending offensive or derogatory tells to another player is not allowed. There will be ZERO TOLERANCE for OOC insults.

That's pretty clear there...

Raids and large fights

On case of raids and other large PvP involving happenings. (even if it's possible that something large happens and it 'might' involve PvP), get DM prepared for such event in good time before the happening. This way DMs have time to prepare and discuss what will happen or if it's approved or not so DM approval is rather must.

- Willing victims... such as people knows what will happen and they have accepted that death is possibility, yes those work. You don't directly need DM observation for something like that. (unless it involves enviroment like city guards etc)

* I think this can be compaired to frieds playing with friends, it's easier to just go by the flow when everyone knows what will happen. There doesn't happen much whining because friends respects each other and try not to anger each other.

- Unwilling victims... such as people are caught unaware, secret assault to place, messing with peoples lives. Most don't actually lose a thing, it's the fact that group of people fully buffed comes to kill you that is the bad thing... On these cases you need DM to overview.

* Plans: What will happen if you lose/win. Where do you attack. What is your goal.
* OOC rules: DMs will determine these before raid.
* Communication: When people know things, it isn't surprise or backstab.
* Better OOC planning: More of DM side... yeah, not the best ones in past, but we're learning slowly Wink.

Enviroment, if the raid happens in place where enviroment 'should not be ignored' (such city NPC), you need a DM to overview.
-> only on case of raids... not such cases like using disguises/trying to sneak into city.

Warzones
... sorta separate issue, but they are currently underwork by DM Ilsensine.
- That won't probably get rid of possible city/guild/house raids (real IG city with lore) anyhow... those will be left more of epic events though probably.
- They will be custom maps for open to some separate skirmisses.

What is count as raid?

Raid to hostile territory is something with meaning to inflict harm and destruction, in general looking for PvP or major events including outsiders to PvP. Such as:
- Attacking building.
- Capturing faction/great amount of people same time.
- Hunting people just for killings sake.
- Attempts to inflict harm/destruction to buildings/altars and other similar targets.

Some non-raid happenings that includes hostile territory: (unless they contradict with earlier ones)
- Spying; Staying out of sight and trying to get as much information as possible, doesn't include physical pain.
- Assassination; A single target to take out, this still is needing players consent.
- Taking prisoner; Taking a single prisoner for questioning or other purposes is not count as raid.

In general, use common sense. This game is not meant for going around rules or beating the rules... it is meant to have fun and the rules are meant to secure fun for other than just the killer. Their and your fun might be different, try not to interfere it too much... of course sometimes RPing leads to PvP inevitably, don't take it as OOC hostility, but accept consequences to your character or avoid the reason that leads to them.

PostSubject: New PvP rules...   On Character vs. Character (PVP) Icon_minitimeWed Jun 10, 2009 7:57 am

New rules from the TFR forum - espcially the 24h rule...
Hope that is okay I just add them here as well.
Quote :

Basic PvP Rules:
Player vs Player fighting

1. Ask for OOC consent, or make IC consent VERY clear, before initiating PvP... (assassinations/attacking in general)
2. Don't be an arse, you are not the only player. (Treat the other players like you'd want to be treated yourself.)
3. Raise dead/resurrection are not mandatory, but good manners. (You must raise dead if you broke server rules for PvP.)
4. Raids require DM permission before attempting one.

Note:
No porting to PvP combat. <- period If you want to get your companions ported to combat, you need the clear consent of opposing side, OOC. Also, new folks arriving to PvP must have an IC way to do so: no god-moding.

Raise Dead is NOT mandatory after PvP. It is nice thing to do, but you do not have to. Although if you're doing clear rule breaking it is expected that you'd raise your victims. This is not excuse for rules violations, however.

Important questions to ask yourself before PvP:
Is your character fighting another character? (that's IC happening and if you have
good reason for it, then go ahead) Many folks call this CvC.
or
Are you a player simply fighting another player? (that's OOC happening and you
NEED to have OOC consent for it) This situation is handled best in the Arena

If a fight is going to begin, BOTH sides involved must set all enemies to “Dislike” using either the hatestone or the player list for combat begins.

Logical IC reasons for combat...
- Someone repeatedly offends your character: intimidation, curses, clearly trying to pick a fight with you. This includes facing a "hostile race". Emote body language or actions that suggest your PC is growing hostile or getting ready to fight.
- Self-defense... someone has attacked you; you have right to defend yourself automatically.
- Being robbed and spotting it IC. The game engine makes spot checks for you automatically if the thief is using the in-game Sleight-of-Hand skill. Robbery is considered as an attack. Consider your PC’s alignment, class, or code before killing a thief, though.
- Generally stay true to your character, but do not be jerk OOC.

Territorial Rules
If you are in home territory, and are confronted by PCs from enemy territory, you do not have to engage in PvP. If you do not want to fight, the enemies (from opposite territory) MUST leave the current map, and should try to provide an IC reason for doing so. Use OOC tells to make this very clear. Example: A group of four low-level drow are in the tizzinhold, and an epic surfacer enters; if the drow don’t wish for PvP, the surfacer must leave, perhaps emoting something like “not worth my time”.

If your entire party is killed in enemy territory during PvP, you may not respawn in enemy territory, and you may not return to any enemy territory for 24 hours (see below).

Home territories...
- Surface: All server areas that aren’t labeled “Underdark” or “Subterranean Passages” on the map screen are surface areas. Drow and duergar may be killed on sight (KOS). The Surface is enemy territory for Underdark races (not svirfneblin).

- Underdark: All server areas labeled “Underdark on the map screen. All non-drow, non-duergar are KOS. Negotiations are easier in some Underdark areas (Raduguer) nad basically impossible in others (Szith). The Underdark is enemy territory for surface races and svirfneblin

- Subterranean Passages: Server areas labeled this way are neutral. PvP only happens by explicit consent. Nyr is an exception (see below).

- Guild/Houses: Non-guild members are intruders if they are in guild territory and the members have right to dispatch the intruders.

- Nyr: The gnomish home is treated as a surface area for “Home Territory Rules”. Drow and duergar are KOS.

(Suggestion: players that play female, DON'T forget rule number one " don't ruin others fun")
- Heresy will lead to death when found out, so hide it very well. (any non-Llothian or non-Selvetarian deity)
- Be ready for getting into fight... Drow are a very violent race. Be ready to back off and do what others say IC if you want to avoid fight. However remember that being a drow IC does not mean you can be jerk OOC.

Amnesia...
In some PvP cases your character will have amnesia IC . . .
- Roleplayed deaths...
- Successful assassinations...
- Other deals made with opposing player for that specific fight

This is to protect "wrong doers" from getting totally screwed... like an assassin who’s victim returns and ruins their reputation after dying. It is not meant to be in every death... just assassinations and special happenings.

What this means is that your character doesn't quite remember what happened... numbers, shapes, shades of the people who attacked don't come directly to your characters mind.

The 24 Hour Rule:
Griefing, Harassing or Repeated Tormenting: Any repeated assault on a character is Absolutely Prohibited

• Repeatedly killing a player is not allowed. If a PvP battle has occurred, neither party may attack the other for 24 hours REAL TIME. Openly hostile action by either PC during this time waives this protection for that PC.
• Openly actions include: in-character threats, flaunting the orders of militias/guards, "jailbreaks", drawing weapons, combat buffs.
• If you are defeated in home territory, avoid contact with the PC that defeated you, either with rp or using OOC tells. Purposely taunting the PC that killed you qualifies as an "openly hostile action".
• If you are defeated in an enemy territory, your PC may not return to that territory for 24 hours of Real Time. “Defeat” means your entire party is defeated (just you if solo, your whole group if in a party). So, for example, a Surfacer mining party killed near Raduguer (or anywhere in the Underdark) must all refrain from entering the Underdark for 24 hours, and a solo (or party) Underdarkian that fails a surface assassination (or any other surface combat encounter) may not enter the Surface for 24 hours.
• This is a harsh punishment: IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE. Do not complain to DMs that, since you got killed, you can’t go to your favorite grinding/mining/farming area for one day of real time.
• IF your PC returns to enemy territory during the 24 hour period, you are breaking a server rule.

Raids and large fights

Raids are large PvP happenings, mediated by DMs. Get DM prepared for such event in good time beforehand. This way DMs have time to prepare and discuss what will happen or if it's approved or not so DM approval is rather must.

- Willing victims... such as people knows what will happen and they have accepted that death is possibility, yes those work. You don't directly need DM observation for something like that. (unless it involves the environment like city guards etc)
I think this can be compared to friends playing with friends, it's easier to just go by the flow when everyone knows what will happen.

• Plans: What will happen if you lose/win. Where do you attack. What is your goal.
• OOC rules: DMs will determine these before raid.
• Communication: When people know things, it isn't surprise or backstab.
• Better OOC planning: More of DM side... yeah, not the best ones in past, but we're learning slowly .

Environment
If the raid happens in a place where the environment 'should not be ignored' (such city guards), you need a DM to supervise the entire raid.
-> only on case of raids... not such cases like using disguises/trying to sneak into city.

What counts as a raid?
Raids to hostile territory are meant to inflict harm and destruction, in general looking for PvP or major events including outsiders to PvP. Such as:
