Think we should try to arrange an event and find a new Master of Melee. Our current one has been gone to long now. Think we can boot him for neglect even if he comes back rofl. How many would be interested in trying for this position?

And of course I have a pc to throw in

Mazrim Morbb'dalharen.

So far thats 3 people. Think if we could find another 3 we can hold some kind of Trail for the position. Something more than just a grand melee (well since we only have 3 so far it really isn't grand rofl)

Akkori's not a WM of any type, nor do I have the desire to have him be any type of master of the melee school, however if you all end up doing any events/training sessions, I can always bring him down to help with training in light weapons... mainly kukri's...... eventually I'm hoping to get a few levels worth of a rebuild so I can tag on a few levels of invisible blade.

I'll gladly step aside, yea im coming back, not as frequent as i used to most likely but i'll be around. Plus i dont think im fit for the job, not the type that apparently is needed for this job. From what ive seen, people view as melee class as moment to drop in, beat the crap out of each other and really dont learn anything, if thats the case, i aint teaching it nor wasting my time with it. Good luck to the next master of melee, hopefully your luck is hell of a lot better then mine.

PS: Reaper, you were there for my third attempt and revamp of the system to try and get people to come, needless to say, three months of effort is a lot a patience, but if you think you can do it, i'll endorse you.

Well if they didn't like it your way they wouldn't like it my way as I was gonna try and continue what you started. but i'd glady beat the crap out of anyone who wanted it the old way like a certain other player had it...

Well, much of the reason things did not work out before were due to a tentative, and hurting drow players base. Things are still tentative and hurting, but I am hoping with more DM attention, that will slowly change.

I hear that.

In the short time that I've been playing on this server, I've noticed a large portion of new drow PC's going straight up to the surface.

But many of the players that go to the surface follow other deitys, I guess many didn't really know before they made their char that this is a Lolthian city... And it turns bad for them the moment someone notices they follow Lathander or whoever else. (as it is not always Ellistrae either)

Yes, seems to me that we've had a new string of players who want what is often thought of as 'drow-uber-ness' but at the same time wish to ignore that they are on a role play server that is set in the Forgotten Realms. So thinking they can be the very first player who dared to make his own copy of Drizzit in TFR and that maybe it will be 'easier' for them on the surface, away they go. Of course when they get killed over and over again by surface players and can never enter Fae Saile, Mountain Deep, Llandra or any other surface city other than the Luna Temple, things might not be as easy as they hoped.

Good drow are one in a million, or should be, even though the server population it is more like one in twenty, which really isn't that bad when you think about it (though I am sure there are many surface rp'ers that are pretty tired of seeing drow running amok saying 'dude' and 'what up?' all the time).

Many new players often want to 'rule the world' and make a big splash and change the very fabric of the universe (server) by logging in and waving a sword over their heads, without realizing that to enact change it takes a serious amount of time and commitment to role playing within the server's established environment to even begin such effect, or by becoming a DM an opening the toolset (also requiring a serious amount of time committed to the server and the community as a whole, instead of just their own personal 'uber-ness'). This sort of commitment is not a rare requirement of NWN/NWN2 servers, and chances are if this is the first time a new player encounters it, it will not be the last.

After some new players figure out that they may have to learn the words 'vendui' 'jabbress' and 'jaluk' and that it will take a at least some role play to get groups and be able to hunt (grind) let alone be a level 30 leader of Szith, they are then forced to reassess their expectations. They either accept and join the community for the long run, or they 're-think' their characters hoping for an easier route to 'uber-ness' and server fame.

When they learn how very hard it is to stay alive or gain exp in the underdark starting areas, and hear how that it is very easy on the surface (maybe true? dunno anymore, used to be true) jumping out of the underdark becomes a very attractive option.

They might be able to level faster, yes, but in time they will come to the same conclusion as they did early on in the underdark, 'I have to commit role play time to be significant in the word' at which point, they either do so, or leave TFR. Chances are if they do leave, they will be back, having gone through this same learning process again on a smaller server and then feeling limited by that situation as well. That or they will move on to another game all together.

Personally, I think DM_SongSpire's efforts are beginning to make a change. Encouraging players who may not have role played as much before to join in, as well as showing the server community as a whole that things are happening in Szith, and the DM staff is back to supporting the underdark as well as the surface, is very important and in the long run, will be good for the server as a whole, and not just the underdark as a community.

Couldn't have said it better myself Mazrim.

You're correct about Songspider's work as well. The last even we had was pretty large. While I've only been on TFR for a few months now, I have to say that the event we had a few days back had quite a few players involved.

Really a good time. =)

Hopefully more and more people will have the desire to RP in the underdark as time goes on.

As I've been told by a number of surfacers.... OOC, everybody that plays UD charries are far nicer OOC than those nasty surface folk =p

......I'm not sure how much truth there is too that statement, but I got a kick out of it!

Akkori with that comment you ended with... it is only because UD players (old timers mostly) know you need to stick together and help each other out. Most players on the surface couldn't give a damn about anything else but their own greed.

Yeah everybody I've met that plays UD charries on a consistent basis are awesome. It's easy to tell how much they care about the UD community and wanting nothing more than to see it flourish.

Truthfully, a big part of the reason I decided to stay here and play on TFR is because of the amazing people that are a part of the UD community.

There are some good surface RP groups out there, but you do have to try to understand that they are often frustrated by the masses of bozo players who run amok ignoring their role play and the world setting. In many cases, these bozos seem to see the 'good guys' role play is just an excellent excuse to abuse them so they can claim 'teh Win!" Very rarely do I actually break out my surface toon, because of this fact. It's just not worth the frustration. After all, in the UD, if someone pulls that crap, you can just kill them on the spot, which tends to end it. The 'good guys' don't have that option really, not if they want to RP being a kind and good person.

But a good RP group on the surface to look up, if you are interested, is the former SOTL, now called the Order of the Silver Rose (OSR) - good people to play with =)

Just to clarify, by no means was I trying to call out anybody that plays on the surface.... only repeating what I've been told BY surface players that I know.

Oh, I wasn't attempting to argue, I agree that there are a lot of players on the surface who fall into my 'bozo' category, was just attempting to offer up a that there are some who play up there who are very nice 00C, and 90% of the time, stay nice 00C, just perhaps 10% of the time they are frustrated into less nice feeling by all those 'bozos' running amok up there.

Most of the times I log in on my surface toon, and start to rp, it usually only take a few run ins with bozos to remind me why I stopped playing on the surface. I'm not giving up entirely, as I did for about a year, but I'm also not going to let myself get frustrated like I used to, it's just not worth the time that i have to play.

Clearly the surface world must be subjected to drow rule, if only for their own good!

So since it was kind of mentioned somewhere along the line and to get back to the subject Smile

Who ever takes up the roll of master, I actually had a diffrent thought on how to try and run academy classes. from what I have seen, the main problem is to not only get people to show up but to also have an event that will keep everyone who shows interested. I think for melee instead of having a class with actual time set aside to beat each other up. that a melee topic should be brought up (say melee vs ranged, or melee vs magic, melee vs hidden opponets, combating greater numbers.... etc). Tactics on this should be discussed for 15 or 20 mins as a class then the class is broken down into groups based on lvl and sent out to certain area's like elmshire, or frost giants or a similiar relevant area based on topic and groups lvl's. That or maybe some other similiar idea *shrugs*.

i like that idea, take groups on "patrols" not just to grind but actually learn different tactics. Break the different groups up in specific tasks, and make them use basic weapons to accomplish a goal. If one person attacks out of a specific order or goes on own the master will use them as a example "kill" them or take them out etc.

I had a couple ideas for running things for sorceire as well when I get alzar as a master eventually. was thinking instead of classes to hold arcane rituals. something that both old and newer players could do
