History of Szith Castle_Scorn_by_PaleDrow

Drow Empire of Elben Aator
Created by Sherincal

Six hundred years ago seven dark elf adventurers have come to the far ends of the Underdark to establish a foothold in the lowermost level of the Isle of Elben Aator for the dark elves. They were originally drawn there by the lure of gemstones, which is more pronounced in the svirfnsblin than in any other race. The most valued common skill among the svirfneblin is that they are miners and their gemstones and magic are legendary.

These seven dark elves established the settlement and started importing supplies from other nearby drow settlements and allies. At the time of the drow migration into the underworld of Elben Aator, the svirfnsblin and duergars where the most common races to inhabit the underworld there. Strong but non-aggressive by nature during the arrival of drow, the duergar and svirfneblin were hunted down as slaves. Any resistance was brutally crushed or enslaved.

The Underdark became the wild frontier of the underworld on the Isle of Elben Aator. Once there were large svirfnsblin kingdoms throughout the region, but these were destroyed around 200 years ago by the drow raiding parties pillaging the svirfneblin's for precious gems and magic. This area has seen the fiercest fighting of the svirfneblin history on Elben Aator. Before the drow migrated into the Underdark of Elben Aator, the main threat for the svirfnsblin and duergars had been the illithids. Now, these drow of Elben Aator have been using their new temple dedicated to Lolth as a staging point for several wars and assaults throughout the Underdark to expand their underground empire.

A new colony had been established using the slave labor of the captured svirfneblin and duergar during the raids and battles through the Underdark of Elben Aator. The svirfneblin and duergars were forced to work vigorously constructing the settlement into to new city known as Szith. Slavery has played a large part in the construction of this new drow city. All unskilled labor that transformed this settlement in Szith was carried out by svirfneblin and duergars slaves captured during their times of war.

Not long after establishing this settlement in the Underdark of Elben Aator, the Eryndlyn matriarchy sent their ambassadors to inspect a new temple dedicated to Lolth and were later thought dead after failing to report back with news. Only now, and after Lolth's silence and return, the Eryndlyn matriarchy has considered the fate of their fellow ambassadors a point of interest again. After sixteen years, and without any communication from Szith, the matriarchy sent new adventurers to the Isle of Elben Aator to investigate the long lost city. Their mission was to reestablish any trade routes and prepare to rebuild it into a glorious new city to expand the drow empire in the name of Lolth. Some of these adventurers were adherents of Selvetarm, Lolth's guardian during her silence. Eryndlyn matriarchy are suspicious that the previous drow inhabitants found something intriguing on their deity's behalf.

The new adventurers have been disappointed by the truth. Although the dark elves that came before them set up a temple in two large chambers nearby the old settlement to honor the arriving priestess ambassadors, they found their city Szith was discovered by the dwarves not long after they arrived, and the bones of the drow now molder in the rooms, not too far away from where the drow adventurers had decided to rest while they determine their course of action.

((if anyone wants to add about the actual in game happenings, then feel free to PM me.))

These rules are in character laws of this city, they should be handled in character and used as general way to behave.
(Created by ReMzy)

1. Non Drows.
Races that are not drows or part of the drow society are totally forbidden inside Szith, only valid exceptions would be for Duegars ambassadors, Duegars merchants and any other normaly accepted races within the drow society, anything that lives on the surface or that is not normaly seen inside drow cities will be handled as trespassers and are to be enslaved or slain on the spot!

2. Hierarchy.
-2.1 General male behavior. Even the mightiest of male wizard is less important than a common houseless female (exceptions may apply). Females have all of the powers in Szith and males exist only to please them. General lack of respect/manners or refusing to obey any of the female's command will result in dire concequences for the male caught doing so.
-2.2 General female behavior. Only a female of higher rank (and males of higher rank, whom are extremely uncommon) can order another female of lesser rank. Forgetting your place will in no way serve as valid excuse and will most likely result in public humiliation, punishment or execution (depending on the gravety of the incident).
-2.3 Lolth's daughters. Yathrins, lolth's priestess stand above (almost) everyone, if an unexperienced young Yathrin orders a veteran female warrior, said warrior is to obey without argumentation (Grudge, however, is in order... vengeance is a plate best served cold!).

3. Slavery.
-3.1 Non drow slaves. These slaves have no rights and belong to everyone, they generaly serve as labourers or on rare cases, for bed duties.
-3.2 Drow slaves. Drow slaves have no rights, just like non drow slaves, altho they tend to do less labouring and more bed duties, especially the females that are popular among lesser ranked males. Drow slaves are generaly owned and belong to their master.

4. Childrens of Lolth.
Anyone, regardless of sex or rank, caught harming or lacking respect toward any of the children of Lolth (spider) is to be executed on the spot.

5. Religion.
Szith is a Lolthian city, heretics and infidels (non fallowers of Lolth, fallowers of other lesser drow gods that promote power to the females arrent concidered as heretics) are not accepted in Szith and will be enslaved or slain if unmasked. Anyone caught helping these heretics will suffer the same fate.

Government Hierachy in Szith.
Made by Shyntree

GOVERNMENT AND NOBLE CLASSES:

The Valsharess:
Currently Pau'Mai

Most Llothian cities would not have a Valsharess. the title loosely translates to Empress. However since Szith is comapratively small compared to mainland Drow cities, Szith has developed more of a dictatorship than an oligarchy. The Valsharess is essentially the queen of Szith, the most important individual in Szith, superior to all in rank. Most often she is the ex-ilharess of the First House, and thus usually a yathrin, and a powerful one at that. She presides over the Ruling Council, and decides on essential foreign policy and internal matters.

The Ruling Council: Ilharesses
Currently
Nandra Morbb'dalharen
Ashian'Darra Dev'Lin
Talice Kor'ali

Most major Llothian cities would have a Ruling Council consisting of the Ilharesses of the first eight ranked houses in the city. Eight to reprersent the number of legs of a spider, etc. Szith is smaller. There are, currently, three Ilharesses: Mori'hyanda, Morcane, Dev'lin. These three I;haresses form the Ruling Council, presided over by the Valsharess. Though the ruling council would not meet many times each decade, only for emergencies, nevertheless being on it indicates importance. Iharesses in general, and these three in particular, are superior to all in Szith save the Valsharess.

Ulathtallar:
Currently Vilmiathien Morbb'dalharen

The Ulathtallar is the head of Arach Tinilith, and is essentially the head priestess of Szith. She is not technically below the Ilharesses in rank, nor above them, but rather she has ultimate authority over a different sphere of influence - religion, the temple, and training yathrin. She will almost always be from the current First House, or at least one of the first three houses. In practical terms she would have more power and influence and importance than Ilharesses of lesser houses.... but would show at least some deference to extremely powerful Ilharesses such as those of the first three houses in Szith - though they would meet on almost equal terms rankwise.

Yathrin:
Next in RANK in Szith would be all other Yathrin. They would have their own ranks inside the temple.

Female Academy Heads:(excluding Ulathtallar)
None besides the Ulath'tallar currently

Though technically Yathrin are higher ranked then all other females, in terms of practical power and importance, female heads of drow Academies would be more promninant figures than most Yathrin. They would also have ultimate authority WITHIN their own academy.

All other females:
After this would be all other noble females. Note: Not commoners.

Male Academy Heads :
Rizzen Morbb'dalharen - head of Sorcere
Korvelas Dev'lin - Head of Melee Megthere

Ranked lower than all noble females, but higher than all other noble males, would be male heads of academies. This is only RANK, mind you. In terms of practical power and importance, male heads of academies would probably stand on a roughly equal power footing as female academy heads, though they would have to show deference a LITTLE to all other noble females, even if they are more powerful than those females. Amoungst the acdemies, The importance is roughly: Sorcere, VDVM, Melee. This is very loose though, and only applies if the academy heads are male.

House Patrons, House Weaponmasters, House Assassin and House Faern:
Each house will generally have a Patron (the Ilharess' current lover or lovers if she has a few - used for breeding, usually has more importance than other males, but some Patrons are very meek, little more than glorified concubines, this varies between houses and ilharesses), a House Weaponmaster in charge of training the house's common soldiers and nobles in combat, and a House Faern who is in charge of the House's wizards. Most houses will usually have a house assassin as well. Sometimes this is the same person as the house weaponmaster, and is either male or female. Males with these important positions within houses will generally be ranked higher than othernoble males in their own house and other houses.

All other noble males:
Ranked below the house heads, would be all other noble males.

COMMON CLASSES

Merchant Clans:
An important group though sneered at by nobles, are the Merchant Clans. Powerful sort of middle-class "companies" that manage trade deals with other underdark races, and form the basis of Szith economy. They generally have their own private armies and spies, on the scale roughly of a minor Noble House. They are inferior to all nobles, but generally rank above commoners. NOTE: There are currently no merchant clans active in Szith, it would be good to see some.

Mercenary Companies: Dek'za d'velven
Often made up by outcast and exiled noble males or those fleeing from their defeated houses after losing a House War, or especially skilled common soldiers who have opted to join a mercenary company rather than a Noble House's army, Mercenary Companies fill a number of roles for Noble Houses: Assassins and spies for hire, soldiers for hire in emergencies, etc. Mercenary companies are often scorned as houseless rogues in drow cities, but survive nonetheless, as there is a demand for them and they are usually very good at surviving anyway. ((NB Think Jarlaxle's Bregan D. in Menzoberranzan)) Mercenary companies generally rank higher than other commoners and in terms of practical importance, are often more powerful than some minor houses.

Common Females:
Commoner females generally rank above commoner males.

Common Males:
Commoner males generaly are the lowest ranked nonslave drow.

Duergar, etc, merchants:
At any time, a drow city is only roughly 20% drow. The rest are slaves or merchants. Duergar merchants are a common sight in any drow city, and while they are lower than the lowest drow in terms of rank, they will not be treated as slaves as long as they are polite and defer, always, to drow.

SLAVES IN SZITH

Drow slaves:
Ranked below all commoners and nobles are slaves. Slaves are the lowest of the low, treated horrendously usually. Drow who are slaves are usually outcasts and defeated soldiers from a fallen house, or someone punished by the temple and sold into slavery. Slaves have no rights in Szith.

Duergar:
Duergar slaves will generally be treated slightly better than non-duergar slaves.

Other slave races:
All other slave races... most of them. Except:

Darthiir slaves:
Surface elves taken as slaves are the absolute scum of the earth in Szith. Treated worse than all other slave races, drow will be horrificly cruel and torturous to any darthiir taken as slaves. As with other surface races, the more attractive specimens, male and female, will usually be bound to work as sex slaves in the massage parlour, and killed once they have been worn out. Another possibility, is they might be kept by yathrin or other noble females as practice subjects for new torture methods, or just plain amusement.

Three Basic Rules of Rank and Power:

1) Nobles, regardless of gender, are always of higher rank than commoners, regardless of gender. Meaning, a noble male is higher ranked and of more importance than a female commoner who is just a warrior-caste fighter, common soldier, etc.

2) Within the nobility (drow belonging to noble houses), ALL females are of higher RANK than ALL males.
Meaning, the archmage of Szith if male, is of lower RANK than the weakest of Yathrin from the poorest of houses.

3) Thirdly and most importantly: RANK is NOT the same as POWER, or influence, or social standing. Rank is abitrary, not neccessarily practical.

Ranks of Noble Females and Noble Males

Females) Amoung females, Yathrin (clerics) are of higher rank than all other females. Next would be magic-using females - though in a real drow city, there would not be so many female mages as most noble houses would send their daughters to become Yathrin, not Faern (mages).

Males) Amoung males, faern (mages) are generally ranked higher and it is seen as the best occupation for a young noble male drow from a good house. Next would be the Weaponsmaster of each house, probably - in charge of the training of all noble and common soldiers in the art of warfare. Other important roles giving higher rank for males, would be house assassins, patrons (basically the Ilharess' current lover). and the like. NOTE: "Rank" between males is not concrete, and of little importance to females - as females don;t care how jaluks rank each other so long as they are all "below" females.
